Tips for a Successful V.C.S.

1.     Plan early and consider all aspects of conducting a Vacation Bible Church School.

2.     Select committed workers.

3.     Secure the interest and support of the entire congregation.

4.     Preview, examine and distribute curriculum resources early to avoid surprises.

5.     Make plans realistically based on previous records and allow for reasonable growth.

6.     Provide training for teachers and workers and have teachers/workers’ meetings.

7.     Provide an opportunity for dedication of workers within the corporate setting of the congregation.

8.     Don’t beg people; rather offer them an opportunity to share in a meaningful teaching/learning experience.

9.     Be sure that clear written instructions are given to all workers and teachers.

10. Purchase enough supplies and resources to get the job done.

11. Check, and double check the schedule, e.g., room assignments, classes, and times to avoid overlapping confusion.

12. Express appreciation to the teachers and workers with a certificate or small token at the close of V.B.S. They are volunteers who have made sacrifices willingly. Be thankful.

13. Recognize the participation of students by giving certificates and/or mementos of the experience.

14.  Practice good stewardship in every way, especially in storing or recycling, useable materials for the Sunday School or   other activities.

15.  Ensure that everyone understands their responsibilities and knows where to turn for answers or emergencies.

16.  Keep accurate records and evaluate the whole process.

17.   Make appropriate reports to the Pastor, Board of Christian Education, and Director of Christian Education.

18.   Publicize the V.C.S. in every way possible: newspaper, bulletin boards, television, radio, church bulletins and businesses.

19.  Make every effort to make all experiences meaningful.

20. Be Flexible.
